Welcome to Anne Powell's home page, come on in. You'll find lots of info about my two passions -- work and play. A lot of these pages are really old (ok, ancient by web standards), but the basics of my life haven't changed much.

Work stuff

Since 1986, my professional life has been devoted to Quality Engineering. While pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois, I thought that I wanted to be a chip designer. What I discovered in my first job is that it's much more fun tearing apart other people's ideas.

Here are some of the things I've worked on, or you can read my chronological resume.

In addition to spending a lot of time doing my job, I've spent a lot of time reflecting on how I do my job.

• Testing process. The opinions on these pages have been developing for over ten years as I worked to train new QEs.
• Using the Category/Partition method. Some years ago, I attended the COMPASS conference in Maryland. It is a strange experience to sit in an audience and hear a formal description of what you have been doing informally for your whole career.
• Hardware Software Cosimulation. This is a paper that I wrote for a class. It's part research, part personal experience from my involvement in simulation efforts at both Amdahl and Alteon WebSystems.

Play

It only seems like I spend my life at work. I do have a fair number of outside interests, some of which don't immediately mark me as a nerd. Not that there's anything wrong with being a nerd, why some of my best friends are, er, never mind.
